Capparel.21est

Brand Founder: Oksana Sutyagina

Brand DNA

Capparel.21est is a Russian clothing brand rooted in deconstruction and transformation.

Concept

The hallmark of the brand lies in its one-size-fits-all pieces and complex tailoring — volume, exaggerated sleeves, textured fabrics, frayed edges, and detachable elements. The primary colour is deep black. The universal fit makes the brand’s pieces suitable for both women and men.

Brand History

The brand was founded in 2021 while Oksana Sutyagina was on maternity leave. Together with her mother, a professional designer, they began experimenting with clothing and creating unconventional items. Initially, Oksana’s ideas seemed strange and completely unwearable to those around her, but she stood firm in her authenticity. Today, the brand is featured in major department stores in Yekaterinburg and Moscow. The name Capparel, pronounced [ka-pa-REL], was born from a blend of two concepts: it stemmed from Capsula, the name of Oksana’s existing shoe business at the time, combined with the French word for clothing, apparel.

Blitz

A brand item you’d want to wear non-stop?
Every collection has a favourite piece for me. In the latest one, it’s the asymmetric Pinch jacket made from eco-leather. It’s dramatic, bold, and sexy, fitting both men and women perfectly thanks to its transformative elements
An item you'd pass on to grandchildren with the words: 'Let this remind you of me'?
I’d pass down my brand. As sad as it might sound, I hope it lives on after me. This is likely every creative person’s dream — for their work to endure beyond their lifetime
Which historical or literary character would you make the face of the brand?
The Addams Family. That dramatic, gothic story is very much in the spirit of Capparel. We even had a collection inspired by these characters
What scent aligns best with your brand?
Probably the scent of leather. I adore clothing made from this material
What’s the ideal location in the Urals for a photoshoot?
Near the Yekaterinburg city administration building. Its majestic graphite-coloured architecture would fit perfectly with our concept
What’s the hardest part of creating a new collection?
Designing commercial pieces. My imagination is very vivid, so creating something simple feels dull. Yet, for the brand’s growth, wearable models are essential. I always want to create bolder, more complex designs, so I have to keep grounding myself
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t listen to anyone and do what you love. At first, my creations didn’t resonate with people; everyone thought I was making strange pieces that would never sell. But despite this, the brand has flourished and continues to delight people
How would you describe your brand in one word?
Authenticity
What will change fashion in the near future?
Young creatives who aren’t afraid of criticism and create from the heart
